During the Pisa event, the Minister of Education Maria Chiara Carrozza said: "The fight against alcohol abuse should be a battle of European Community. The human chain created by 2,000 students at the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa today, December 21, sends a very important message to Italian and European students and I hope that this initative can be repeated by every major city in Italy and Europe. Alcohol abuse issues are a part of the life of young people of every nation".
On the lawn next to the Cathedral, Pisa highschool students created a human chain with the message "Alcohol does not make Miracles". The photograph was taken by a police helicopter circling the area.
Carrozza also said: "We will include this initiative in the events of the European Presidency, because I believe alcohol abuse should be faced on a continental level. We all should fight to save this generation of young adults."
Prefetto Francesco Talenti said: "The message created with the bodies of Pisa students will affect where prohibition does not."
